wedding talk {midwest wedding photography}

2012 is going to be full of exciting experiences, including lots of weddings! I'm so excited for this because weddings are like no other photo sessions. Of course there's the time set aside for pictures, which is its own photo session, but the rest of the day is purely photojournalistic--no posing, no directing, just me capturing people being themselves, and, most of the time, people are enjoying themselves at weddings, which means I don't have to tell my corny jokes to make anybody smile :)

Above are a couple more shots from my friend Aubrey's wedding, which took place September 24, 2011 in Crystal Lake, Illinois. These were just for fun--see the main photographer, Sarah Hrudka's, work here. The little girl on the bottom right is my Evelyn.

love! cassie & willy {zimmerman, minnesota engagement photography}

These two are getting married in July but opted for an autumn engagement shoot--it's always fun to change things up like that. Our session was the morning before our first snow, and it was coooold. By the end of the shoot my fingers were numb but it was well worth it!
Their wedding theme and colors are inspired by Americana, which fits perfectly--Cassie and Willy are relaxed, fun, and gosh, don't they just make you wanna snuggle up with a loved one under a handmade patchwork quilt?

a secret holiday surprise {sibling love} // Zimmeran/St.Cloud Minnesota photography

I was thrilled when Brittney, a good friend of mine from high school, contacted me about doing a photo session with her and her siblings as a Christmas surprise for their parents. And I was even more thrilled when it snowed this past Saturday, and yet more thrilled when Sunday turned out to be a gloriously sunny day. I love working with the sun in my photos, love love love those sunspots, the back-lighting, the natural yet magical quality the sun can give to photos. And these four coordinated their outfits excellently and were pretty much pros in front of the camera. I am one happy photographer.

But shhh... their parents aren't supposed to see these photos until Christmas, which is why I'm only posting them here -- no Facebook (December 26th, though, these are going all over Facebook!)

inspiration: breathing in a different light....

This afternoon I wanted to try something a little different with some photos I did of Evelyn this morning. There are so many crisp and clear photos out there, which is great and what most people like, especially for family portraits and such. But it's also fun to let loose, to just work with the sunlight coming through the window, to see the subject in a different light and let the photo breathe....

she's so soft & strong & beautiful... can you tell?
